The History of Paint By Numbers: The first patent for a paint by numbers kit was filed in 1951. Since then this technique has been enjoyed by art enthusiests all over the world, including Michaelangelo. It wasn't until 1949 when a paint company in Detroit, Michigan created the first mass produced Paint By Numbers kit. This kit sold over 12 million times and began the worldwide revolution of Painting by Numbers.
